 NATIONALLY ACCREDITED FIRST AID TRAINING

The following courses are offered by LivCor, RTO 3586 who is responsible for the quality of training and assessment provided and for the issuing of Statements of Attainment for the units of competency on its scope.

The accredited training and assessment will be conducted by CYNERGEX GROUP PTY LTD under LivCor responsibility and direction.

HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation 

This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle cardiac emergency situations. It includes:

  • Introduction to first aid principles
  • Assessing a cardiac emergency situation
  • Airway and breathing management
  • Perform chest compressions
  • Administer rescue breaths
  • Resuscitation techniques
  • Using a defibrillator

HLTAID003 – Provide first aid

The course has 7 hours of face-to-face classroom training and assessment with 4 hours online or pre-course workbook

The course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders until the arrival of medical or other assistance.  Topics include:

  • Assessing an emergency situation
  • Airway and breathing management
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques
  • Automated external defibrillation
  • First aid management of the unconscious casualty
  • Medical conditions including cardiac, diabetes and epilepsy
  • Infection control and first aid for minor wounds
  • Allergic reactions and asthma
  • Control of major external bleeding and shock
  • Management of near drowning
  • Hyperthermia and hypothermia
  • Burns and electric shock
  • Eye and soft tissue injuries
  • Venomous bites and stings
  • Fractures and spinal injuries
  • Head, chest and abdominal injuries
  • Communicating details of an incident
  • Debriefing and evaluation of response to critical incidents

HLTAID007 – Provide advanced resuscitation 

This course covers the skills and knowledge to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings. It includes:

  • Suctioning of the airway
  • Use of oropharyngeal airway devices
  • Benefits of oxygen administration
  • Safe procedures for medical oxygen equipment
  • Administering oxygen therapy
  • Resuscitation using soft bag and mask and manually triggered oxygen powered devices
  • Safety procedures for AEDs
  • Administering defibrillation
  • Checks and maintenance of resuscitation equipment
  • Communicate details of the incident

HLTSS0027 Occupational First Aid Skill set

  • HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid
  • HLTAID007 Provide advanced resuscitation
  • HLTAID008 Manage first aid services and resources

This skill set is required for a person in charge of a designated first aid room.  The course is two days (16 hours) plus approx. 8 hours pre-work (Advanced First Aid Skills text and workbook)

Entry Requirements:

  • Prior to enrolment, participants should have some previous experience of providing first aid and must have attained HLTAID Provide first aid.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Legislative requirements of an occupational first aider
  • Maintaining correct WorkCover documentation
  • Manage a first aid centre
  • Advanced airway management
  • Administering oxygen therapy and resuscitation
  • CPR and the safe use of a defibrillator
  • Infection control procedures
  • Bleeding, fractures, burns, crush injuries and other trauma
  • Toxicological hazards and Material Safety Sheets
  • Envenomation and poisoning
  • Heart conditions, stroke, diabetes, asthma, anaphylaxis
  • Triage of multiple casualties
  • Evaluation of response to critical incidents
